Sam Reid (born 27 December 1991) is an Australian rules footballer for the Sydney Swans Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Reid, whose brother Ben Reid plays for Collingwood, was drafted to Sydney with the 38th selection in the 2009 AFL Draft.[1] His father Bruce Reid played over 100 games for Footscray and Carlton and his uncle John Reid played 10 games for Sydney in the early 1980s. Reid's first game was in Round 22, 2010 against the Brisbane Lions.[2]

In round 12, 2011 Reid was nominated for the 2011 AFL Rising Star after a 2 goal performance against Richmond.[3] Reid played every game except one in season 2011 and was rewarded for taking on such an important position (centre half-forward) with such consistency at a young age by being given the Rising Star Award at the Club Champion Award night. His strong contested marking was a constant source of enjoyment for Swans' fans and showed a glimpse of the potential that Reid possesses. Reid's athleticism, leap and vice-like hands were his best assets in his first full year in the AFL and he showed enormous promise as a key forward.
